This piece depicts a local island called Sandy Point which has been deserted since 1973. It is now a bird sanctuary and harbors many species of wetland and beach dwelling birds. The piping plover being one of them. The Nature Conservancy of Canada has been buying up land for many years for future preservation. Although there were never any vehicles used on this island, I wanted to use Sandy Point as a backdrop for my old truck and stump combination piece and this was the end result. I kayak this is lonely island many times a year. It also has some beautiful driftwood on the back. This painting is available at the Christina Parker Gallery in St. John's, Newfoundland.
