John Brown

John Brown was born in 1931. His sculpture training began at Hornsey School of Art, and continued under Howard Bate R.A. at Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute.

He creates contemporary sculptures based on the simplified human figure, expressing emotions and relationships. These range from interior pieces to larger works for the garden, workplace or corporate environment

The sculptures are in English stone or in limited editions in traditional foundry cast materials such as bronze or in cast resin metals, such as bronze, aluminium or iron.

His sculptures are in private and public collections throughout the world. His work is also purchased by companies, hospitals and organisations where it complements large public spaces or offices.

Sculpture for the Garden or Yard

John Brown's exterior pieces are created to make a feature or focal point in a garden setting ranging from the town patio to the landscape garden. The scale of the work would be appropriate to the site and in a cast material.

A sculpture for a garden can effectively create a focal point, or even a surprise factor when suitably placed; it never detracts from the surrounding setting but adds to the overall impact.

Sculpture for Interiors

Those interior sculptures designed specifically for the home will complement a traditional or contemporary setting and can be displayed as a focal point on coffee and side tables, shelves and window sills or on specially designed plinths. They are of a scale suitable for most settings and are in stone, bronze resin, bronze and other cast materials. For an office environment they are suitable on desktops, or situations such as board-rooms.

This lovely cream coloured stone from Lincolnshire possesses many of the qualities I am looking for. It is very reliable and fault free, will carve to a fine finish which allows me the opportunity to express the emotions and relationships that so many of my sculptures depict.

Also the colour and subtle grain of the stone not only enhance the effect but allow the work to complement whatever setting it occupies, whether traditional or contemporary.
