Louis E. Hutchins

Louis *“Lou-E.H.” Hutchins
(*pronounced as Louie H.)

I am considered a formal child prodigy. I knew how to draw before I could write my name. I possess both formal and informal training. My first experience in learning how to draw comes from tracing Archie and Jughead comics at age three. At age 5, I was drawing Spider Man without the use of tracing the comic strip itself.

Later in my life, my interest for art has followed me through grade and high school, and college. I attended numerous of post secondary institutions until I finally received my B.F.A. in Visual Communication from Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago in 1997.

While in college, I participated in numerous of gallery showing whereas I got a chance to showcase my work to the public. In addition I even took 1st, 2nd, and Honorable mention in some of these competitions. In addition to the art shows, I am a member of Art of the T-Shirt workshop. This is a workshop where artists of all ages get a chance to create original artwork on t-shirts.

Along with the gallery shows and competitions, I had the opportunity to appear live on the Chicago based Cable Access Television show on Channel 20 through “Art of the T-Shirt” workshop. I was a guest art that showcase some of my original Airbrush T-Shirt artwork. That episode turned out to be its highest rate show ever due to the number of calls for requests my shirts.

My media is carte blanche! I work with any media that’s out there. It depends on what mood I’m in and what I am experiencing as a visual artist. I dabble in pencil and colored pencil, charcoal, oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, ink, paintbrush, airbrush, pastels, etc. If the media is reaching distance and I feeling in my soul, I’m using it.

Just as the media I use goes the same as for subject matter. Although such is the case, I tend to do a lot of figurative (mainly nude males) in my drawings and paintings. As I mentioned previous, I’ve drawn and painted men ever since I was a toddler.

My original work can also be displayed and bought online via my website. The URL is: http://www.louartworld.com . The site was built by me. All the artwork, designs, and home page logo were: created, designed, hand drawn and painted by me.

Overall, when creating my artwork, it’s more than competition and sells. It’s about expression and emotion. I only can draw and paint about how I feel. I’m being true to myself. If I don’t see it with my physical and mentally eyes, feel it within my soul; it won’t appear on the paper, canvas, etc. I can only be true to myself.
