Aynur Girgin Westen

Growing up in rural western Turkey, I spent my days running between fields, climbing olive trees, and catching free rides by hanging on the backs of horse carts. Rows of cherries in wooden boxes, grooves in an old olive trunk, fig leaves between the thin branches—these images caught my attention early.

Now, as a full-time artist, I still look at the world through the curious eyes of the girl from the village. A self-taught photographer, I employ camera shake, multiple exposures, and other unconventional techniques to transform familiar objects into abstract compositions.
