Artist Biography/Crystal Wagner

Crystal Wagner was born on February 27, 1982 in Baltimore, Maryland. Crystal attended Keystone College, a private liberal arts school in La Plume Pennsylvania where she earned her Associate Degree in Fine Art, receiving awards for both her prose/fiction writing and also her work as an artist. During her time there, she spent four months in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, experiencing the diverse terrain of the elevated landscape, studying and drawing from nature in the backcountry. Ms. Wagner then moved to Atlanta where she attended The Atlanta College of Art. After two more years with a double concentration in both printmaking and sculpture, she earned her Bachelor Degree in Fine Art. In 2004 she was the recipient of the undergraduate Southern Graphics Council Fellowship for her achievements in printmaking.

In May 2008, Crystal completed her MFA at The University of Tennessee as a Graduate Teaching Associate. Her thesis exhibition led to the purchasing of one of her large sculptural forms by the Knoxville Museum of Art.While in graduate school, Wagner wrote and self-published a book titled Crimson Sky.

She has participated in numerous artist residencies. Including: 2006 month long Artist-in-Residency in Poznañ, Poland, a month-long residency in July 2008, at the Joshua Tree National Park Residency, in Joshua Tree National Park, CA, in 2009 she was the recipient of the Betsy Worden Memorial Artist Residency from the Knoxville Arts and Culture Alliance for the duration of six months and most recently she completed a two week residency at Anchor Graphics Artist Residency, Columbia College, Chicago, June 2010.

Her work has been accepted into numerous national juried exhibitions and has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. In April of 2008 and March of 2010, she was a featured emerging artist on Juxtapoz magazine’s website and in Summer, 2010 and Winter of 2012, she was featured on the cover of Graphic Impressions Magazine, SGCI

She actively visits colleges as a visiting artist and does site-specific installations. In March of 2008, she was Visiting Artist at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. For thes and also a Visiting Artist at The University of Kansas where she created “Water Garden”, a print installation created using relief, silkscreen, and intaglio components, and in Nov. 2010, she was visiting artist at Bowling Green State University for the duration of one week, where she completed a larges-scale installation titled "Tropic", which was on display for four months.

She is currently Assistant Professor of Art, printmaking area head, Georgia College. Recent events include: solo installation, "Plastic Grotto" which was exhibited in "Window on Broad", during Philagrafika and Southern Graphics Council Conference at The University of Arts, Philadelphia, PA, March 2010, Solo Exhibition, “Hybrid Jungle”, Famous Accountants Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, numerous national juried exhibitions, including, “Pushing Paper: National Invitational Paper Exhibition”, A.D. Gallery, University of North Carolina, Pembroke, “InPrint: Contemporary Printmaking Exhibition”, SCA Contemporary Art Gallery, New Mexico, and upcoming, solo exhibition, “Bionic Devices” University of Mobile, Martian Gallery, “Bio-Dome”, solo exhibition, Gallery 13, Minneapolis, MN, “The Line: National Juried Printmaking Exhibition”, Prescott College Art Gallery, AZ and UMKC National Printmaking Exhibition, Hand Print Press Gallery, University of Kansas, KS. Recently her large-scale installation, "Bio_dome" was a featured exhibition at the Southern Graphics Council International Conference, New Orleans at NOCCA a part of the curated group exhibition, "Spatial Shift" at Gallery Project in Ann Arbor Michigan.
