Ruth Edward Anderson

I am a self-taught artist. I paint in oils, acrylics, mixed media, found/recycled objects and papers. I enjoy making 2D art on canvas. I sculpt in clay, mixed media, found/recycled objects, wishbones, skulls & bones. I also do photography and digital art using my photos or entirely from my imagination. I was a partner in Esbin-Anderson Photography in NYC.

AVP at Citibank, NYC for 20 yrs. I held several different positions during my career. Favorites were when I wrote a book explaining how money moves throughout the Individual and Private Bank and designing a program to re-train employees, whose positions were redundant and finding them new positions.

Oil Paintings

My oil paintings have been done in the old master technique of thin layers of glaze (fat over lean. I usually worked on 2 paintings simultaneously so the layers could dry a bit. These are my first attempt at paintings in 2000. I hope you enjoy viewing all of them.

Cara “Cara”

A young girl patiently sits and waits as she makes the journey towards becoming a woman. The colors in the painting reflect the process that is taking place within her body.

Androgen “Androgen”

This painting is also painted in the Old Master Technique of fat over lean glazes. I chose to paint this one primarily in shades of yellow except for the red mouth and brown eyes.

Floating “Floating”

A nude foreshortened man is floating within ...... whatever the viewer's eyes see.

Abstracted Eye “Abstracted Eye”

All the swirling colorful lines eventually lead you to their eye. Painted in the Old Master Technique of thin layers of glaze (fat over lean).

Mixed Media Dimensional Paintings

All of these painting are on canvas and have things sticking out of the canvas. I use various papers, materials, doll parts, found/recycled objects, wire moulded into faces, body parts, screws, safety pins, acrylic, screws, etc.

Looking Inward Detail “Looking Inward Detail”

I wanted to show a closer look at this painting and decided to show the hand & zipper of the nylon net bag.

Agony (Part of the Mask Series) “Agony (Part of the Mask Series)”

This 2D Painting is a part of the Mask series. My idea here is to show what is really beneath the smiling face that always says "I'm fine". I pealed off the face to show the raw emotion inside. It is made from shaped wire, papers, acrylic paste and paint, safety pins, doll eye, etc.

Sculpture

I love sculpting in every form I have tried. I do a lot of sculptures from found/recycled objects, I love using bones and skulls in my sculpture and paintings. I have fun making mixed media sculptures as well as working in clay.

The Race, Won By A Nose Detail “The Race, Won By A Nose Detail”

Humorous sculpture that I made from found and recycled objects. Poultry legs/feet painted acrylic metallic paint. Bird skull with blue doll eyes mounted on a piece of bark I found on a walk.

Mystical Bird of Paradise “Mystical Bird of Paradise”

The beautiful, metallic tail feathers are made from Wishbones. The head is a small Parrot skull attached to one small porcelain doll leg. The sculpture is mounted on a black base.

Digital Art

I'm really having a lot of fun exploring digital art. I didn't think I'd enjoy it cause there's no paint, or clay or smells...but now I'm realizing that it's a legitimate art form & fun to do.

Filled Up “Filled Up”

Digital art from my imagination. This is about how you feel when you are "Filled Up". Like after Thanksgive Dinner when you can't fit one more bite into yourself. But it can also be about being "emotionally" filled up or anything else you can fill up on.

The Persian Cat “The Persian Cat”

Another digital piece from my imagination. The big pink nose, the quizzical eyes and all that fur.

Breaking Up “Breaking Up”

I used a photo of myself to do this one. I wanted to visually show how you think your face looks when you feel you're "Breaking Up". So overloaded that you can't continue, to much stuff to do and not enough time, going through a break up, having health problems....whatever!
