Martin Sitta

Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Martin Sitta became enchanted with art at an early age. From the stellar architecture lining the streets of Prague, to the artistic legacies of František Kupka and Alphonse Mucha, Sitta was both impressed and inspired by his cultural heritage. Although he now resides in the city of Chicago, his work as an artist still reflects his roots in Central Europe. A multi-disciplinary artist and designer, Sitta specializes in graphic design, painting, and photography. Working in a variety of media is essential to Sitta’s life as an artist, for as he cultivates his skills in one medium, his entire practice is strengthened. Since studying design at the College of DuPage (AAS Advertising, Design & Illustration) and Columbia College Chicago (BFA Graphic Design), he has worked with clients in the wine and hospitality industries, producing clean, minimalist designs imbued with feminine sensuality. As a painter, Sitta also draws inspiration from the female form, but in a more exuberant and expressionistic manner. Applying layers of cursive, frenetic brushstrokes to both his abstract and figurative paintings, he infuses his large canvases with the emotionality of color and movement, creating impactful aesthetic experiences for his fine art viewers.

Figurative Paintings

Martin’s figurative paintings advance his cursive strokes technique and create eye-catching imagery. His compositional identity is defined by interactions between figures and background. His characters emerge from detailed study, simplification and spontaneous layered process. Overall, the female abstracted form plays key element in his work.
His figurative paintings are defined with simplicity, flatness and well harmonized between line work and space. Martin’s cursive brushwork allows him to sing with a completely original voice. His layered organic style is complex and painterly.

Abstract paintings

Martin Sitta’s abstract paintings are vessels of pure emotion. Rather than using his characteristic cursive brushwork to accentuate the female form, Sitta allows his colorful brushstrokes to flow freely across the canvas, a subject in and of themselves. With a keen sensitivity to color and design, he builds up a complex web of emotional brushstrokes, which both overlap and blend into one another. As the illusion of depth is simultaneously created and negated by these layers of paint, each canvas is activated by a unique sense of movement and energy. Thus, Sitta’s exuberant abstract paintings act as palpable expressions of the artist’s innermost feelings: not only to be seen, but felt.

Fashion paintings

These paintings are inspired by rough fashion sketches and working drawings. I take sensual part of the draft pose and redefine it with vividly appealing composition on the canvas. Final composition visually represents style with coherent statement of fashion.
