Ryan Groot was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and spent most of his first 20 or so years traveling across the country camping, working and going to school which helped form his love for painting and art. Since 2001 Ryan has lived in Calgary, Alberta, where he met his wife Kristy and has been happily married since 2005.
Ryan enjoys working in various mediums including acrylic, oil, graphite, pastel and ink pen. Rather than limiting himself to one or two styles, he tries to reflect his experiences through choosing the best medium and style for what he's trying to say.
Ryan works from his home-based studio, where his goal is to represent his surroundings and experiences through art. His constant inspiration is his beautiful wife and daughters, as well as his family and friendships.

This is some of my latest work. When my daughter was born, my world was filled with color and I wanted to share that feeling the best way I knew how. The vibrance of these paintings reflect the inspiration that she constantly provides me.
These pieces were some of my first forays into using oils. I really enjoyed how the paint allowed me to blend colors and learn as I painted. I had just moved from Winnipeg to Calgary and had a lot of time to myself, so I had the opportunity to learn a lot!
