Born in Geneva, Dominique Hoffer followed her schooling there, after which she worked several years as a secretary and other food jobs to finance her training as a professional pilot. She then pursued a career as a pilot in Switzerland and South Africa until 1988. Since that year she decided to devote herself entirely to her artistic work, whose inspiration is often drawn from her travels.
In 30 years, the studio installed in the family home in Switzerland, has seen the birth of the extravagant images that have made the artist famous through numerous exhibitions and a loyal clientele over time. Venturing to the frontiers of the plausible, Dominique Hoffer creates stories as enigmatic as they are fascinating by juxtaposing unrelated subjects to offer the viewer marvelous and disconcerting visions, with multiple interpretations. Her paintings abound in details where all the elements harmonize to create a wonderful world. The line of great precision, the colors applied in 3 or 4 thin layers of oil paint, a constant in the artist, participate in a hyperrealistic kind of style where harmony is invited, without forgetting the humor that occupies a large place in this universe with an unclassifiable but recognizable style. Finally, the title is chosen once the work is completed, presenting a very tenuous relationship with the image and thus opening new horizons to the viewer.
