I am a Montreal based artist who combines a love of painting and fashion to give life to my images. My obsession is with current culture and trend and I like to sprinkle that with a touch of drama.
Color originates from elements in nature and when used to decorate the body, it becomes more than a hue, it’s a history.
My paintings draw on the symbiotic relationship between fashion and the mundane, exploring the 'un-reality' where excess becomes fashionable and fashion excessive. The surfaces of fashion are used as a means of seduction; they appear highly plasticized, saturated in gloss and permeated by sensuality. To confront oppositions which are common in contemporary fashion advertising, I deconstruct, reconstruct and abstract these surfaces; turning commerce into critique, realism into revelation.
Excavating imagery from an array of sources, I continually draw from photographs as well as my ever-expanding collection of source material. Scanning my photos and manipulating them to focus on specific details is the beginning of my process. I love to play with light, color and orientation; the negative space becomes just as intriguing to me as the paint applied on the canvas.
