Lyn Gilbert

Lyn Gilbert
I studied painting at the University of Natal and later completed a Masters in Fine Art at Rhodes University.
I have worked in a variety of fields including teaching art and arts administration. From 1993 to 2013 I have been self employed as a book illustrator both for school textbooks and children’s story books
Painting has always been my primary objective and I have had several exhibitions with works in various private collections in South Africa, Hong Kong, England, Ireland, Germany, Canada and Norway.
In my paintings, the geography and people of South Africa are a constant loved influence. People and animals move, dance through landscapes, emerge from subterranean caves or are embedded into the environment. Colour and texture are used to evoke a variety of emotions ranging from sombre to playful and absurd.
