Location:

My work is based on social
identities. For me, it's about the fragmentation of human individuality in the
face of a social system of belonging. Being different is a non-negotiable
right, particularly in multicultural societies like Brazil. However, these
differences should not be used to take away rights, discriminate or make people
socially invisible.Through the collage of discarded magazines, I develop an investigation
into the hidden histories of these different identities. I like to say that
reuse is not second-rate or inferior, but a reflection of human subtlety.
Perceiving and producing cut-outs of these subtleties is a process that
requires something that modern societies no longer have: time. My collages
converge in the amalgam of social connection principles of upcycling. They are
made analogically and entirely committed to the handmade. Thousands of pieces
of paper are cut geometrically and glued together, one by one, in a physically
demanding process that takes months to complete. Through it, I intend to
highlight the social interactions of group, ethnicity, religion and gender in a
great metaphor of social identities: A meticulous look at the inverse and the
interaction of our different personas in this journey of self-gnosis.
