The beauty and mystery of my art is the extraordinary power to act directly on our senses and express ideas and feelings not communicable in words. The forms are manipulated to capture the movement, softness and fluidity of the material leaving marks and textures on the surface which preserve moments from the making process. Using bronze and other things to create some of the marks and textures are strong and bold and others subtle and fragile, enhancing both the tactile and visual qualities.
Mauricio is an artist who has been influenced by all his lives and feelings. His artistic background is no limited to sculptural expression; he has also worked in painting and jewelry design. He learned sculpture whit recognized Latin American Masters of art, enriching his oevres with expression and energy. His sculptural style is traditional and contemporary, less insistent on a theory of ideal proportions, and at the same time is strong, passionate and rich in movement. These characteristics are exposed in his collection "The Passion for Movement".
