At the core of Laura’s research through art is water. According to the artist, water takes on many metaphors for our patterns of thought and behavior. The river is her primary example showing how we flow around problems like the meander around a boulder. Her concern for stagnation in her own life and a deep desire to grow spiritually keeps her examining water patterns to express her own sensation of being in the flow of life.
Laura holds a BA from Lehigh University and an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. She exhibits in solo shows extensively in the New York to Washington, DC corridor area, with shows in LA and art fairs in both NYC and Miami. Her gallery representations include; The Drawing Room Gallery in Cos Cob, Ct., Simon Gallery in Morristown, NJ and Artifact Gallery in NYC.
Laura has had considerable press coverage in the Baltimore area and has been the featured artist in an online journal, Jersey Arts and in print in Design New Jersey Magazine.
Channeling Nadis are paintings on loose canvas that explore the energetic flow patterns of life. I create resistances of crackling and dropped circles of acrylic paint to challenge the flow of ink and water. I pour a lot of water so that it picks up and carries the paint with it like sediment in a river. Most of the paint I use is a mineral color: copper, silver, Mayan gold, or turquoise. Each painting has a trail of minerals flowing off the end of it. Works on loose canvas form to the terrain beneath them around my property and create long flowing rivers and valleys recorded in acrylic, watercolor and ink. As the canvas dries and shrinks, I add more paint, allowing it to go through an expansion and contraction several times. The pathways or channels change and flow in new patterns with every adjustment.
This is a message about spiritual growth. When we find ourselves at an imbalance, how do we move around those obstacles? This work expresses our emotional intelligence, looking at the places where we are blocked, where our hearts are broken and clearing them. As our hearts open, we connect our minds and hearts to manifest a new empathic way of healing and a way to evolve out of duality.
“A Grander Place with Expansiveness Chase”
Acrylic on canvas, 4ft. x 8ft. This painting title comes from my poetry written at the time.
Acrylic on canvas, 4ft. x 8 ft. This title, Juice of Old Verilium, came to me in my poetry with out knowing the meaning, then I looked it up and realized it to be a type of metal, a color or an ale.
“Everlast, Everlast, Everlast”
Acrylic on canvas, 4ft. x 8ft. This word, Everlast, appears frequently in my poetry, I interpret it to mean life after death or the place we go between lives before reincarnation. It speaks to our eternal nature as a soul.
Acrylic on canvas, 4ft x 4 ft. This piece was made as a more centrally radiating form than a linear flow pattern, although the flow patterns are seen emanating from the peak of the mountain or central point.
