Zara Monet Feeney

I earned a Master of Fine Arts from Laguna College of Art and Design and a Bachelor’s of Art from University of California, Los Angeles. My academic and teaching specializations are in oil, acrylic, watercolor, egg tempera and gouache painting as well as various drawing mediums, with additional expertise in color theory, design fundamentals, photography, art theory and art history. My credentials also include; the current Artist-in-Residence at Standard Projects (Wisconsin), the Head of Department of Art at Governor’s School of the Art’s (West Virginia), the Full Time Visiting Professor and Artist in Residence at WV Wesleyan College as well as Fine Art Professor at Orange Coast College (California). My current research trajectories are based on extensive world travel and expose how extreme government hierarchy and fixed cultural traditions, can pre-determine or force familial roles, sexual orientation and gender identity in specific communities. By exposing disorientating circumstances of excessive monetary gain, bureaucratic power and mass consumerism, the work aims to challenge the idea of cultural privilege, sustainability and development. Using a dramatic dynamic between the appropriation and the alteration of voyeuristic imagery, the work aims to be a pictorial space in which the viewer’s interaction with is stalled, accelerated or challenged.
