Our relationship with the natural world in the everyday environment is a key theme within Sandra’s work. Birds have been the dominant inspiration over the last 5 years, with the focus on species common to the Lothians. Her recent paintings explore the way we observe the activity of birds and are left with lasting ethereal impressions of their presence. Using silhouettes simplifies the imagery, pushes the emphasis on to the form of the birds and their relationship to each other, and the space around them.

More generally Sandra's work takes in a variety of forms including workshops within schools, installations, artists books and painting. In all this, Sandra uses her art to encourage people to look again at the natural wonder within their everyday environments.
