The Rebirth Of The Figurative Form
The renaissance of figurative art has a new protagonist in Brighton born, London Based artist Steve Yeates. He explodes the concept of the traditional aesthetic by his innovative use of socially inherent recycled materials such as reconstituted vandalised bus shelter glass & resin or recycled papier mache paper products.
Creating reflections of the human body from shattered vandalised bus shelters by reconstituting the glass is just one of the many ways that this innovative figurative artist uses the concept of de-construct to evolve destructive forces into new constructive aesthetic realities. If the re-genesis of tradition art is proving awkward, its maturation is surely blossoming with this incisive exploration of the human soul. It is therefore no wonder that an artist such as Steve Yeates is enjoying such critical appreciation.

The Hero Inside Us All explores the role that superhero comics play in the memory and self expression of our childhood dreams. Do we ever stop wishing we had super powers. The wall mounted dynamic figure appears to fly out of the wall. It is only when you closely examine the wall sculpture that you discover that it is covered with images from Superman comics and then the flying composition makes sense.

“Flights Of The Imagination II”
Inspiration behind Flights Of The Imagination II
I am always drawn to sculpting the human form in dynamic poses such as those created by sportsmen, gymnastics, circus, dance etc. Flights Of The Imagination II is inspired by a rugby flying tackle. Now that I had a composition in mind I now began looking for a surface covering that would go with a wall mounted papier mache in the shape of a flying tackle. I am a big fan of Leonardo De Vinci’s art and in one of my reference books I came across some of his flying machine designs. From there I researched and collected a selection of his most iconic flying machine designs and then had them reproduced so that I could apply them to a papier mache & mixed media wall mounted base. I apply the images in such a way as to create the impression of muscles, definition and shading. Leonardo’s designs were never actually realized hence the title of the sculpture Flights Of The Imagination. This sculpture is the second in the series using Leonardo’s drawings.
Inspiration behind Crazy In Love
I am always drawn to sculpting the human form in dynamic poses such as those created by sportsmen, gymnastics, circus, dance etc. Crazy In Love is inspired by two amazing bachata dancers Daniel & Desiree dancing to a track written by Beyonce called Crazy In Love. The couple create beautiful and passionate shapes as they swirl around each other. I have tried to capture their passion in my wall mounted sculpture. I applied the music score on the girl's side and the lyrics to the song on the boy's side. I used a deep red paper with the lyrics in a dark almost black ink. I used a cream paper for the music score with the score printed in a deep red to match the red paper. You can have a copy of this sculpture jut like the images or I can make a bespoke version identical in shape but with a song of your choice and in a variety of papers and inks to suit your home. This service is all included in the total price. The sculpture can hangs off a single screw.
