The Monkey

The Swiss-Australian artist Joey Schmidt-Muller (born 1950) drives his traumatic objectivity to a grotesque point and confronts us with its own abysses, with the unfinished existence of its own existence. We painfully recognize that we are born human, but we still have to become "human beings". The monkey who fools us here may have more to say than we first believed. What dialogue begins here, between vegetative affection and us. What is the next step: generation or degeneration?

The Cry “The Cry”

Are not we all chained up in our thought-dungeon, in our emotional prison, from which we blink anxiously out, worried about the trials of freedom, the idea torture waiting for us out there? Assuming the shackles fell to dust or Fröndenberg's chains would be papier mâché like theater backdrops? The door to the law, as in Kafka's parable, would not be closed in reality? The freedom of a ripe fruit on our plate? Do you hear Florestan's Kerkerarie, sung by Peter Anders, 1952?
