The kind of art I produce is portraiture and abstract paintings. I am inspired by the great Masters from Titian and Van Dyke, Rembrandt and Picasso to Mondrian and Kandinsky. I want to capture people and their interior life and the motions of the mind. Initially, i decide what I am going to paint, close up of the face, head and shoulders or full portrait and how I will do that. I prepare by buying the materials necessary to complete the idea. For example size of canvas, colour of paints and size of brushes. I will begin by making a sketch of the idea, in the studio, with pencil and paper. From there I watch it progressing from an initial idea to a finished piece of artwork. This takes time to emerge as I am trying to capture an interior concept, I cannot see where I am going or how it will look when finished. Experimentation is a big part of the process. Once it’s finished decide what it will look like on display when framed. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead I use shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect. The process is different for abstract work. I really enjoy the non-representational aspects of abstract artwork.
