The inclination towards painting and art was a natural transition. Being the daughter of an Architect who was an extraordinary artist himself meant that Ritina was exposed to drawings, precision, structure and expression of art from a very young age. Though, she did engage in painting during her academic years, it was more of a hobby and pass time activity whenever she needed to empty her mind and relax, which just faded away unknowingly as if pushed to the back burner. During her formative years, she engaged in a great deal of painting techniques, like fabric painting, art on pottery, and wooden surfaces, all just a source of enjoyment. It wasn’t till very recent times that she really started pursuing this passion seriously. Her works of art have been sold and gifted to a lot of her friends and family.
The recent years have been an interesting journey, where she looks back and see’s the transformation of an amateur to a more professional level as an artist. However, the more interesting part has been her enjoying every single moment of this journey. The more she learns, the more she realizes, how much she does not know about the infinite spectrum of art!
Living in the peaceful town of Tennessee, USA, has been a blessing, as it has let Ritina explore and express her creativity through every new piece of art she creates. Losing track of time when engrossed in art is so very true for this artist, who toils for perfection, by giving each piece of artwork her true heart and soul. So rightly said in her own words – “Each piece of my artwork is like a piece of me being reflected through it. They are me in the form of a painting.”
Guess it is true that when passion becomes profession, you never work again!
A self-taught artist, with no training in the field of art and painting, she has reached her present level of skill through practice and watching other artists at work on the internet. She enjoys using various surfaces, mediums and textures for painting and is always keen to try out something new. Doing commissioned artwork is a challenge which gives her an opportunity to stretch her limits even further. Recently, she ventured into portrait painting too, which is a whole new arena by itself. Basically, her preferred medium has always been acrylics, due to its speedy drying time. Sometimes the use of oils, where blending and creating textures, has always been simpler, also indulges her. Her painting surface could be anything from canvas, fabric, to wood or earthenware.
She prefers to be a versatile artist, rather than restricting herself to just one avenue like landscape, seascapes or portraits. Her paintings are usually with bold and bright colors, and she relishes incorporating the most minuscule of details into each piece. However, she has continuously been experimenting between sharpness, shades, shadows, reflections and visual illusions. “Each artwork is a session of learning” she aptly says.
Costa Amalfitana is an acrylic on canvas painting of the Amalfitana coast of Italy which is a very famous coast. Italy has always been one of my favorite locations as the coasts of Italy are simply mesmerizing. I would definitely say that I have visited Italy a couple of times and hence the attraction to this country and it's beautiful coast line. I love the way the colors in the sky play with the coastline and the water. The evening sky gives the whole place a golden yellow glow as if it is being blessed by The Almighty. I often stop to think about the way God has created the Earth like one large painting which he definitely enjoyed doing. I feel we as artist are tiny amateurs trying to create art the way he has. I would love my viewers to get a feel of the the beauty of this planet Earth and want to go places to experience it in person. I always feel that if God has taken so much effort to create so much beauty in this world, it is our duty as people of this Earth to at least go around , see and admire it.
