“Quick painting, immediate, gestural, which offloads on the medium - often paper - emotional and mental energy that lives in sudden outbursts; and it also accepts the completion of the work to be a certain element of randomness:" My painting, "says Salvadore, "for a long time was only water and pigment. Water, being fluid, is not completely controllable and it allows me to step aside, letting the form reveal itself, as if my hands were sensors, antennas. "Moreover, it seems to be a way a painting that does not find satisfaction in the use of a single medium, and lives instead in a multitude of partial interventions - and indeed one might say physically lived - with different tools and materials (ink, acrylic, pastels, watercolors, heavy paint, house paint, and more). So, all this is a functional expression of a drama that the work carries with it almost physically: the marks become entangled writhing; the brushstrokes gather in heavy lumps; the very pastels and watercolors - which tradition has shown us as “gentle” - produce powerful and nervous stains. Regarding the video, it is no longer about dealing with "the painting as finished work, as a goal of perfection” but rather with "the video as evidence of an action, a tension”. The whole process, in fact, in which it is expressed ( "the action of the mark itself, its formation and its cancellation that become the work") allows the artist to place themselves- through the narrative that follows - "closer to life and the truth of things." On the other hand, however, the sense of fragmentation that is inevitably linked to the technique of stop-motion animation brings us back, once again, to an intense interpretation of the world, that is a restless fragmentation characteristic of our times, and in the works of Antonella Salvadore permeates in all its tragic and painful power.
