Scratch-board and colored pencil are the media with which I am most comfortable. Although I am self taught in scratch-board, I have had success in awards, ribbons and sales in shows at various galleries by The Phoenix Artists Guild in Phoenix, AZ.

Evening Swan Rising

This is a 16" x 20" scratch-board. Lots of scratching. It won "Artist of the month," at Phoenix Artists Guild and second place in a juried art show.

Smiling Goldie

This is scratch-board. I had difficulty with the color. First, I used an alcohol based yellow ink which turned green when it mixed with the black ink. Then I used a yellow ochre ink that had an acrylic pigment. That filled in the scratches obliterating the fur appearance. Finally, I cleaned it and went with colored pencils; yellow ochre, terra cotta, sienna, beige, white, canary yellow, dark umber and pink. I'm glad I didn't give up. I am quite pleased with the result.

This is a photo copy one of the first scratch-boards I sold.
