Artists & Illustrators Magazine, UK voted this painting the overall winner of The Artist of The Year Competition 2010.
Valery Koroshilov explains it: "The idea of this picture originates from my intention to pay a tribute to Andrea Mantegna, whose relatively small painting Ecce Homo, ca. 1500, now in Paris, made a great impression on me. Following Mantegna’s compositional structure, I nevertheless reduced the religious content to a mere symbolism, and focused instead on expressing the subtleties of the human emotion.
My son Philip acted as a model."

Lina Reynolds, an American poet, wrote about this painting in 2010:
I find your piece fascinating. the two tone background and the strokes are like stripes of life collected within and without.
As our tones (experience) make up who we are, strokes of these tones are part of the variables of our experience…. like night and day and the variations of going towards the sunrise and the moonrise… ?I like your style cause I don’t want to stop looking…
