Aoife Shine

Location: Ireland

I have completed 4 years in Printmaking and Contemporary Practise in Limerick School of Art and Design. My style and medium as developed over the years. I use a lot of photography and video within my practice.
My subject matter, however, hasn't changed but has evolved;
Depression causes people to wear emotional masks in order to cope with their daily life. I use this shroud as a prop to convey the hardship of recovery and repair. The use of the mask throughout my work opens up the idea of introspection. I use myself as a medium for my practice to honestly explore the workings of my inner mind and use my body to express the mental condition. Art for me is a relief from my struggles and I use its creative properties to empower and create states of being. My artwork is made in solidarity for those who suffer from similar experiences and comments on the assumptions people have on the symptoms of mental health. My visuals stem from emotions of confusion and states of overwhelming abandonment.
