Ralph Miller’s work brings together a variety of materials, textures and colors, often contrasting the natural world with contemporary icons, creating unique tapestries of modern life. It is at once experimental, unexpected and whimsical.
After many years of sweeping up needles every Christmas, stringing and un-stringing Christmas lights, Ralph decided to paint and decorate a re-usable, 9-foot-high tree! “Christmas Tree #1," is the spirit of Christmas around the world. It is brought out every season, plugged in and voilá, instant holiday spirit—a labor of love spanning two decades, it was literally wrapped up January 2021.
Included in this acrylic and mixed media, 98” x 68” canvas are fragments from Christmases past, small kinetic toys, paper, wood and metal ornaments, a stocking for stuffing, found objects, bits of ribbon and braid, and a zillion miniature lights. A small cup holds a wireless remote to make this a smart tree indeed.
