BIOGRAPHY Artwork by Canadian artist Monika Wright is held in collections in Canada, Europe, USA and South America.
Her paintings incorporate universal symbols, circles as emblems of unity, wholeness and infinity; and lines representing boundaries which separate us, but which also connect us to one another.
Vibrant colours and organic shapes spring out of a spontaneous, intuitive style that invites you into an inter-play between the artwork, the artist and your own imagination.
She is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) and ArtSpa. Monika has received a variety of awards and is actively engaged in her own art practice as well as that of her fellow artists through exhibitions, workshops and volunteer work.
Monika’s work has been published in International Women Celebrate, in the 50th Anniversary Edition of Enroute Magazine, in Exposure, Echoes of Elizabeth Bishop, CBC Sharing the View Calendar and Arts Illustrated Magazine.
ARTIST STATEMENT Art has the power to be transformative, to rearrange our vision of the world: territorial, geographic, religious and economic. We are all part of one puzzle, divisible only by our own thoughts and actions. In a world obsessed with darkness, I want to introduce light, hope and joy. Through awareness of our interconnectedness, the way our actions and beliefs can affect us all, we can reach a state of compassion. What we choose to see and believe will determine how we live, not just where we live.
These paintings incorporate universal symbols such as circles and lines - circles being emblems of unity, wholeness and infinity, and lines representing boundaries which separate us, but which also connect us to one another. Vibrant colours and organic shapes spring out of a spontaneous, intuitive style that invites viewers to ignite their imagination and create an interplay between the artwork, the artist and the viewer.

Lyrical Expressions

Canadian artist Monika Wright creates expressive abstract paintings that reveal dynamic elements of color nuance, of magical light that glows amidst the darkness, of brushstrokes that are both wild and gentle, conveying movement and mindfulness.

Her fluid, lyrical acrylic and mixed media paintings Incorporate circles as universal symbols of unity, wholeness and infinity, and lines as boundaries that separate us, but also connect us. Vibrant colours and organic shapes spring out of a spontaneous, intuitive style that invites viewers to become engaged with the work, to be an active participant in its creation by using their own imagination to travel through the artwork.

To facilitate this process, her works are often wired to hang both vertically and horizontally. “Turn it around and you’ll see a whole other painting,” she says. “I like the playfulness of this process and the thoughtfulness it can provoke. I hope that you’ll see something different every time you look. I’m encouraging people to open up, let their imaginations flow and experience the art and to make it their own.”

Leaving behind a hectic life in Toronto for Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2005, Monika rediscovered her passion for photography and painting. After a tragedy in her own life, she found solace in the creation of her art and was embraced by the vibrant and supportive arts community in Halifax. Making art became both a passion and a vocation. Soon her work was exhibited in galleries and exhibitions and she became a full time artist.

Monika is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) and ArtSpa. She has received numerous awards in both Canada and the USA and has been published in International Women Celebrate, in the 50th Anniversary Edition of Enroute Magazine, in Exposure, Echoes of Elizabeth Bishop, CBC Sharing the View Calendar and Arts Illustrated Magazine

Monika’s work is included in private and corporate collections in Canada, USA, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain and Germany. In February, 2015, she is one of 250 artist participating in the Artist Project, one of Canada’s premier art fairs.
