Statement

Art has the power to be transformative, to rearrange our vision of the world and create bridges to connect us, to lead us to a greater understanding of the world we share, and those we share it with.

With intuitive movements and marks, I create organic shapes that symbolize nature’s powerful ability to unite us. Art making is my way to connect to the creative force of the subconscious. Universal symbols of unity, wholeness and infinity conjure our great human potential. The lines and circles in my paintings, represent the bridges that cross over the chasms that separate us, bringing us together to walk a shared path on Earth. What we choose to see and believe will determine how we live, not just where we live. Let’s build the puzzle of our life on this planet with care and empathy.

Lyrical Expressions

Canadian artist Monika Wright creates expressive abstract paintings that reveal dynamic elements of color nuance, of magical light that glows amidst the darkness, of brushstrokes that are both wild and gentle, conveying movement and mindfulness.

Her fluid, lyrical acrylic and mixed media paintings Incorporate circles as universal symbols of unity, wholeness and infinity, and lines as boundaries that separate us, but also connect us. Vibrant colours and organic shapes spring out of a spontaneous, intuitive style that invites viewers to become engaged with the work, to be an active participant in its creation by using their own imagination to travel through the artwork.

To facilitate this process, her works are often wired to hang both vertically and horizontally. “Turn it around and you’ll see a whole other painting,” she says. “I like the playfulness of this process and the thoughtfulness it can provoke. I hope that you’ll see something different every time you look. I’m encouraging people to open up, let their imaginations flow and experience the art and to make it their own.”

Leaving behind a hectic life in Toronto for Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2005, Monika rediscovered her passion for photography and painting. After a tragedy in her own life, she found solace in the creation of her art and was embraced by the vibrant and supportive arts community in Halifax. Making art became both a passion and a vocation. Soon her work was exhibited in galleries and exhibitions and she became a full time artist.

Monika is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) and ArtSpa. She has received numerous awards in both Canada and the USA and has been published in International Women Celebrate, in the 50th Anniversary Edition of Enroute Magazine, in Exposure, Echoes of Elizabeth Bishop, CBC Sharing the View Calendar and Arts Illustrated Magazine

Monika’s work is included in private and corporate collections in Canada, USA, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain and Germany. In February, 2015, she is one of 250 artist participating in the Artist Project, one of Canada’s premier art fairs.
