Location: Canada

Suzanne Dennis is a Toronto artist who enjoys the joyful challenge of producing bold colourful abstract and non objective paintings on canvas and paper.
Having obtained a degree in Fine Art at the University of Toronto, further studies followed at the Toronto School of Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario and a term at The Ecole Nationales Superieur des Beaux Arts in Paris.
As a member of the AKIN Collective in Toronto, Suzanne paints in a studio at their Bloordale Village location.
Working with acrylic paints and mediums, her inspiration comes from patterns, colours, textures and details found in nature and man made objects both ancient and modern. Such things as stone surfaces, secular, religious and mythological artifacts and elements of landscape. The sources are innumerable. Armed with a camera, suzanne records images of interest and then is inspired to create her own unique compositions. These are the "road maps" in her paintings.
Using acrylic medium, collaged papers, brushes, brayers and Mark making tools, Her paintings are multi layered and richly textured.

Portfolio:

What Lies Beneath

Inspired by a trip to Turkey and Greece, the paintings in this series were inspired primarily by stone surfaces found in ancient sights ( such as the Aya Sophia) . Temple stone floors where the history of human activity has been documented. Where vastly different ethnic and religious communities have all passed through over hundreds of years. "What Lies Beneath" comes from the inspiration I find in the stone floor compositions. My paintings are yet another layer beneath the paint.
