Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1928, Kogawa is an ink wash painter who mainly uses the landscapes of his native Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi as the subject in his works. Excelling at the expression made possible by bokashi (the characteristic shading of ink wash painting), Kogawa has won numerous awards in exhibitions held around the world.
