Mi Ok Song

Drawing is my passion.

I participate in three local, weekly three-hour figure groups, where I draw a live, nude model with friends & fellow artists. I draw what I see. I pay close attention to the edges of the paper, integral to achieving a successful composition. I consider the negative space equally important as the image itself.

I utilize bold lines, focusing on the details of hands, feet and faces of the models, as I believe these are the most challenging parts of the human form.

I employ color for shading, hues, values, shadow & depth.

I use colored pencils, pastel pencils, sharpie markers, white gel pen, pen & ink on white & colored watercolor paper, white & colored charcoal paper & black foam core, as well as white & black canvas.

The two drawings I submitted where there are multiple figures overlapping (with colored pencils & white gel pen on black paper or foam core) were three-minute quick poses of the same model. I then colored in the figures at home, to create an overlapping image.

The other drawings were longer poses completed during figure group.

I am now utilizing the figures drawn during group and adding colors and images with watercolor, markers, and colored pencils.

I hope you enjoy my art work as much as I enjoy creating them.
