Artist statement
Anina has found her niche in large and small scale portrait and figuaritive studies which she approaches with meticulous attention to detail.
She draws her inspiration from ' the stuff of life', womanhood and the different facets of that identity, relationships, childhood, memories and cultural heritage. These themes are sensitively rendered into art that is relatable and accessible to the viewer.
She explores adversities, mistakes, failures and relationships by asking how these experiences might cultivate human growth and spiritual enlightenment.
The internal landscapes that she depicts set the scene for an enquiry into the ambiguity of life. The notion that any situation could be a cause for optimism or pessimism – that perception is unique to every individual and is simply one’s interpretation of reality – is a central tenet of her work.

The power tools - Sex and Money
It is easier to talk about money...
And much easier to talk about sex...
Than it is to talk about power.
Sex and money are common themes within a relationship. Couples across cultures and continents — of all races and religions, economics and demographics — experience the same human emotion when faced with relationship challenges and marriage problems.
Sex and money compete against each other for the first place in a relationship. A race that is never won by either.
The absence of either of them causes great distruption and disharmony.
Sometimes it feels like nothing ever gets resolved, the dance just keeps repeating itself....

This work celebrates those irreplaceable, strong women who cradle us. Those female heroes that love and cherish us, who sacrifice, provide friendship, discipline and unconditional love to us ... Those mother figures in our lives.
Motherhood is not easy, but it is a blessing. If you are a mother figure in someones life you were given you a powerful source of joy, responsibility, spiritual growth, and a lifelong journey as one who guides another life.

What does it mean to be in tune with the universe? When we are in tune with the universe, we are in tune with ourselves, with other people, with the natural environment, and with God.
Being in tune with ourselves means serving in the capacity for which we came into physical life and functioning at our highest potential. It means going with the flow, accepting growth and change as a natural part of life. It means accepting full responsibility for our thoughts, beliefs, words, and actions. It means learning to appreciate our own positive qualities and resolving to work toward eliminating our imperfections.
Being in tune with others means accepting that all are children of the same Creator. It means appreciating and accepting people as they are and not trying to change or control them. It means being sensitive to the feelings, wants and needs of others. It means finding commonalities and learning how best to work harmoniously and cooperatively alongside other people. It means celebrating with others and sharing their sorrows. It means helping others, but it also means learning how to allow them to help themselves. It means changing our focus from the love of power to the power of love.
