Born in Tokyo Prefecture in 1926, Teruko Otake is a Western-style painter. Although she also paints still lifes, the focus of Otake’s motifs is often the natural beauty of her home area of Kanagawa. In particular, she finds in cherry blossoms (the flower said to embody Japanese spirit) a love of nature and an essential honor and beauty people ought to possess, expressing this sentiment in her works.
