Words cannot describe my art. Emotions tell a bigger story. I tell my stories through vivid color inspired by all forms of nature, my imagination and music.
Abstract is my chosen discipline because of the freedom I feel painting loosely using my emotions. My intent is to evoke from every sense. Joy, curiosity, maybe even dark. I achieve incredible depth in my work and bring a little more of my soul into each painting by titling the pieces with song. My love of music is only surpassed by my love of art.
Visual inspiration is a beautiful garden, breathtaking sunsets or a fabulous landscape. When creating on wood panels, the grain of the wood is oftentimes inspiration alone.
My process involves applying The stain directly to bare wood with my hands as my biggest paintbrush. On occasion I work with a brush for detail and for accenting my pieces with alcohol ink or pigment.
Abstract brings my world and your world together by allowing each individual to see and feel their own story. Primary emotions of a color-infused visual are followed with secondary emotions evoked by “hearing” the music or remembering the lyrics from select pieces’ carefully researched song titles.
Bio
Susi Schuele is a self-taught abstract artist creating in her home studio. Raised in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, she now lives in Carpentersville, IL with her husband, Chuck and her very spoiled dogs and studio mates, Stardust and Luna. She recently moved back to illinois from a 16 year residence in Lisbon, Wisconsin.
Susi has been creating in some way since she was a child. She is self taught, beginning with acrylic paint and drawing.
After a long career in technology, graphic design and web design, she found her “Second Touch” from God and has been creating colorful abstract art since approximately 2015.
“Creating colorful art has refocused my perspective toward the lighter, happier, positive side of each new day. I have seen the same effect on people when they view my art work! Their wide smiles reach their eyes. Their expressions as they realize that my signature pieces are stain on wood and not paint is always a powerful, joyful reaction, both to them and to me.”
Susi has attained her technical abilities from studying the works of artists she admires, such as O’Keeffe, VanGogh and Monet. She is always experimenting with a variety of tools and mediums in her home studio to achieve her desired effect. Current artworks include colorful stains, watercolors, gouache and alcohol ink.
Schuele was formerly a member of many art communities and associations in Wisconsin when she lived there, including the League of Milwaukee Artists, Wisconsin Visual Artists, Pewaukee Area Arts Council (PAAC) and the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Crafters, among others. She was represented by the Gallery of Wisconsin Art (GOWA) online and Woodland Studios in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Since her move, she has been seeking Illinois gallery representation and Illinois association memberships and will pursue it more when the current pandemic settles down.
