Breann Ritchie was born in Grimsby, Ontario on October 4th, 1988. In November 2011, she graduated from the Art and Art History specialist program at the University of Toronto, joint with Sheridan Institute with an Honors Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Studio Arts.
Breann has shown work at various galleries in the greater Toronto area including UTAC, Hamilton Artists Inc. and Blackwood Gallery. In 2011, Breann received honorary mention in the category of Emerging Visual Arts at the MARTY Awards in Mississauga. She has also received two awards from the Chancellor's office at the University of Toronto for excellence in Visual Arts. In her last year at UofT, Breann won a scholarship to study in Siena, Italy for the remainder of her degree.
Breann works extensively with the arts community by acting as a jury member for public art installations, board member at the Hamilton Artists Inc. and is currently Chair of the Hamilton Arts Council's Visual Arts Committee.
Breann is now working for Progressive Fine Art and Crescent Hill Gallery as Registrar and Art Consultant for the greater Toronto area's major collectors.

This work explores shape and form in relation to the body. Bordering abstraction, the fabric reflects life and the unrecognizable as it pushes towards a context of a texture and figure study.
Chiffon and nails. As a site-specific installation, this work is ever-changing in size and shape. It dominates a room and acts as a focal point that questions its relationship to the viewer. The installation of this work contextualizes the notion of thought process and decision making - always different, complimenting the space it occupies. Its flowing shapes and tendrils remind us of our body. This work is part of a series titled "Stream of Consciousness".
12X6 inches, beeswax and cloth on board. "Mint Lips" uses texture to invite the viewer to touch and smell the work. In low relief it creates a stunning profile on any wall. It denotes growth and transformation. This work reflects my interest in organic materials and a motif that I continue to revisit. It functions as part of a series of work titled "Stream of Consciousness".

Beeswax on found branch. This work utilizes the found materials to create an environment for the wax structure to build on. It creates curiosity in the viewer and functions as a catalyst for the idea of a new creature, unrecognizable and out of context in the gallery setting. The viewer is a creator and their curiosity is the main interest of this work. This piece is a part of a series called "Stream of Consciousness".
Beeswax and cloth. This site-specific installation was an exploration in transformation and discovery. On the ground, the viewer exhibits power over the work, walking around it and viewing it from every angle. Nothing is hidden and all is exposed. The work reflects on movement and texture and functions as a catalyst for curiosity and reflection on the human power struggle. This work is part of a series titled "Stream of Consciousness".
These works are an exploration of material. Painted in acrylic on wood they push the eye of the viewer to the border of realism and surrealism. The birds function as a means of addressing the natural world and the beauty in it. The grain of the wood acts as a surreal landscape taken straight from nature.
