Recently awarded with the Swatch Young Illustrator’s Award from Illustrative, Hara Katsiki is a visual artist, born in Greece. Though mainly known for illustration, she expresses her creative vision across all types of media: drawing, painting, graphic&costume design, animation and music.
Her work delves into realms of the subconscious, is populated by fantastic figures and otherworldly creatures, and decorated by surreal and highly stylised aesthetic.
Her work resembles a dream world where imagination and reality come together. This self taught artist gives birth to fairytale like landscapes and odd creatures, using chaotic ink stains, and creating infinite labyrinths of lines.
She is familiar with drawing tools, both analog and digital, and freely uses them all when realizing her projects.
Her highly stylised aesthetic has been applied to worldwide campaigns, music videos, short films, fashion design & editorials, interior design, installations and all types of communication design.
Currently, she is based in Berlin and her illustration work has garnered recognition like the 2010 Swatch Young Illustrator’s Award (“Opium”), ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2011 by Artists&Illustrators Magazine, and the 2012 /// MOTION + SOUND Category Award by Art Takes Miami / SCOPE Art Show and See.Me.
A sneak peak to the fantastically romantic inner world of thought-dreams transcending the boundaries of imagination. Using her dreams as the main source of inspiration, Hara Katsiki was inclined to define/refine the art for this latest collection by using three primary colors: black, white and gold. Hara is using gold ink on black paper creating abstract pieces reminiscent of what she describes as “nature’s unspoken beauty”.
The collection which displays a wealth of melancholic imagery, is one reflective of extremely personal connections. A main source of inspiration for this collection is not only Hara’s relationship to nature (mainly the ocean), but also her relationship with the customary obscurities of her adult presence in today’s society; each piece has its individual peculiarity.
