Artist Statement:

My work explores the complexity of surface, the beauty of imperfection and, ultimately, survival.

Inspired by nature’s ability to re-assert and transform itself to survive – nature is used as a metaphor for our own individual survival. My current body of work includes three series of paintings. Earth Abides focuses directly on our planet and its enduring efforts to exist. Provenance, and the most recent series –Transformation, emphasize the transitory and impermanent essence of nature - a transition from one state to another – again, an affirmation of our individual survival.

Transformation: Water is a series that symbolizes both psychological and physical transformation. Water is both life sustaining and destructive; represents both birth and death, and transforms by both giving and taking away.
