Born in Sweden, Rose-Marie Goodwin (Johnsen, née Svenhard) came to Canada's west coast as a child. Creative and artistic in her core, she has an innate sense of colour and has been influenced by the great artists: O'Keeffe, Hopper, Gavazzi, Degas and Caravaggio.
When asked what she hopes to instill with her viewers: "With images of dramatic light and colour, I strive to encourage in life’s day-to-day walk."
An accomplished colourist, her own style developed in formal training including the Emily Carr and Capilano Universities in Vancouver; at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; in select workshops with accomplished artists; and painting, painting, painting (Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours).
Rose-Marie has received numerous awards for her art, and is a popular public and inspiring speaker. Her solo exhibits have included at the Bellevue Gallery and the Silk Purse Gallery in West Vancouver. Juried Group Shows include the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) in Vancouver; Sidney Fine Arts Show; Kelowna Art Visions; Tsawwassen Longhouse; Regent College; and the Ferry Building Galleries.
Her work has sold in Canada, Washington, Oregon, California, Texas, Michigan, the Carolinas, Florida, Belgium and Sweden.

Honorable Mention in the Artavita Competition (3rd), 36" x 36", acrylic on canvas. Pedernal Mountain is the one which Georgia O'Keeffe, one of my inspirations, called Table Mountain. She painted it often. I love that part of Northern New Mexico.

Have you ever come upon a thing and just knew it had to be yours? Such happened to me one dawn last spring.
So it was the morning I cycled past, then stopped, at the wetlands in the community where I live. It was an attack of beauty. I stopped, leapt off my bike and slowly slowly wandered in… I listened…I sat down. The stillness of this place captivated all of me.
Springtime in an Urban Wetlands restores the soul, busyness evaporates, and the joy of creation becomes a personal reality.
The birds chirping, gathering, nests made; squirrels hopping about. “You know,” said a stranger “there are six beavers living in there”. I have yet to see them, though I will. I return again and again to the peace this corner of creation invokes in me: dawn – sunset.
The more of these ‘must have’ experiences I encounter – the quicker I am to respond. More and more, I am taking in the ‘must haves’ and dismissing ‘indifference's’. My life and my spaces are simplified.
Through my paintings I hope to give expression to how we welcome, ignore, even resist forces out of our control, a creation revealed to us.

Have you ever missed a ‘truth’ ---- right in front of your eyes? And so it was, early one spring morning at McKay Creek near my studio, the light just peeking through the budding branches.
High up. Quiet. Majestic. Peaceful. Fresh.
Such awesomeness right ‘In Our Midst‘.
And then…and maybe not surprisingly…garbage: wasted metal, debris, and paper - irreverently tossed into this pristine sanctuary.
And then…. the sign: ‘This is a conservation creek” which knotted my stomach and bade me to learn more, and to possibly document this place: to return to wanderings there in the quiet of the day and to hopefully express what was naturally intended - not what is.
I have attempted to reveal its’ natural grandeur and peacefulness in this series: ‘In Our Midst’ - 12 large canvasses (48” x 48”) in a designed palette of gentle but impenetrable colour.
The paintings speak of care – reflecting that which has been given to us - in every way – in us and around us.
