Gerd J. Mangels

Born in Bremen/Germany but residing initially in New York City, followed by Morris Plains, New Jersey, since 1970.

While the pop art of Gerd J. Mangels, acrylic paint on paper, is often nostalgic in its subject matter, each image is created with the intent to jump right off the paper into the onlooker’s eyes. The use of a bright color scheme aids towards this goal. The sense of direct contact with the viewer provides the images with an air of spontaneity, making them feel contemporary and unique.

His oeuvre is very much influenced by the works of Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana and Franz Marc.
