Sue Bayley

Location: Canada

'The Nomad Artist' describes Sue's creatively unusual life. Along with her passion for art, she also has a passion for conservation of the natural world. She travels the world and works on conservation projects and assists with marine research. The colourful creatures she paints are ones she has directly experienced and her inspirations comes from the thousands of photos she has taken. The last few winters Sue has spent exploring the Baja of Mexico and experiencing the wonders of its wildlife. Summers are spent on the coast of Western Canada and in Europe with family. She believes that being an artist is not just the art you make. It's the way you live that all are components of the raw material for your art.
Her natural passion for art brings a sense of boundless joy and energy to her work. Her energetic canvases and vivid imagination combine to create an inspired array of animals, each with their own playful personalities. She uses unusual colour combinations of bold, saturated colours. Her animal subjects seem to display human qualities that engage the viewer through the power of personality and a piercing gaze. Avians With Attitude

I want to capture that quirky side of nature where the animals make you smile. This series of bird portraits was started with the 'Punk Pelicans' that I painted while camping on the beach in the Baja Mexico. The pelicans strutted around, calling out to me to paint them!
