ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings are the expression of ideas and feelings by means of pure color and forms. Generally, the work is not narrative and does not depict an image. The painting is an object unto itself. Sometimes, however, the forms suggest buildings, reflecting my great interest in architecture. Occasionally, I paint an actual city but always as a geometric abstraction.
A fascination with geometry and rhythm are evident. Enjoying the infinite possibilities of the effect of adjacent colors, I often position saturated colors against one another. Sometimes, I choose to highlight the purity of the colors by outlining each hue in black or white.
The work is about creating order and precision in a world filled with chaos, disorder and violence. While the mathematically based order of the work reflects intellectualism, the passionate use of color provides the emotional content.
