Artist’s Statement

“As an artist, my intent is to surprise people with multi-textured, multi-layered paintings. The media that I use — resin sand, pumice gel, clear tar gel, glazing medium — are scratchy and smooth, hard and soft — reflecting the complexities, textures, nuances, and surprises of life’s experiences themselves. Then, when I apply the media to the canvas or paper, my brush or palette knife becomes an extension of me and a way to discover the “knowing place” within me — my inner life.
My passion for my art “centers” me, and makes me feel alive. For me, the meaning of life is to be engaged, and my art is a way to do that — to communicate with people, to touch them and to stimulate them to discover their own sensibilities and creativity. In this way, my artwork becomes not only an expression of my creativity but of theirs as well. I, therefore, think of my paintings as “Collaborative Artistic Adventures” between me, the painter, and you, the viewer.”
