ARTIST STATEMENT
Painting for me is all about the “light”- it helps me to see the vibrancy of color and inspires me to develop form with many colors on canvas. I use color to push “mother nature’s” beauty past its limits! I especially love to paint in ”Plein Air” where I can capture the changing light and add even more color to my subject matter and images. Photos from my travels have inspired much of my work. I like to capture the essence of human interaction with the beauty of nature and often add figures in my landscapes.
My images run the gamut from landscapes to figures. When painting portraits, I like to reflect both the personality and likeness of people and animals with the play of light and color. More recently, my use of palette knife has helped me create a looser, more immediate and a greater depth of color in my painting style.
During my college years at the University of Florida, my painting style was influenced by the work of Cezanne and also the Impressionists. I continue to admire and study the works of these artists to get a deeper understanding of the nature of light.
