I have spent my life surrounded by very artistic and creative people that have influence, and continue to influence my work. I am a self-taught artist, owing much to my mother, a very talented artist. She has guided my hand from a very early age.
I particularly relish working in watercolor and I strive to capture the soul or spirit and to portrqy that in the painting through the details, textures and light that my compositions contain.
I'm finding more and more that I like to experiment with different techniques and supports as well. I'd like to think that my work is constantly evolving.
I have been a Graphic Designer/Web Designer for the past 25 plus years and have taught in an high school Graphic Design program
There have been many obstacles for me to deal with during my journey as an artist and as an individual. I, however, look to these obstacles as circumstances that influence my artwork. I have learned how to slow down, to look at beauty in all its many details, to appreciate the texture of a blade of grass, or the bark of a tree, or the color variations in a lizard's skin. I notice the vibrancy of wildflowers, or nuances of light reflected off an animal's fur. Life's demands have forced me to extract as much as possible, the visual stimuli all around me, which others may pass by.
I strive to capture the subtle transition of colors, the uneven textures and irregularities in the colors and shapes that make my subject matter unique. I like to exaggerate a particular color and make it that much more striking. I find beauty in the most unusual places and I like to share that perspective with others through my paintings.
This series is portraying endangered animals.
The series is done on panels that are 2 inches thick, so they stand out from the wall.
They are a collection of canvases, hung together that hold a single image that sweeps across the collection of panels.
The panels are of different sizes and place in a hap-hazard way.
You don't see the entire animal, this is a representation of the animal's dwindling numbers. They are done on a collection of canvases, spaced apart to look as if the image is breaking apart, getting ready to disappear.

This is an experimentation utilizing both watercolor and India ink together. I am employing techniques that encourage irregularities such a blooming.
The ink is then placed on top of the watercolor painting. I utilize a combination of swirls and circles and lines to portray the shading and to add whimsy.
