Born in 1949 in Tokushima Prefecture, Akemi Shibuya is a doll artist using Gofun (pigment made from scallop shell powder) who studied the technique under Kikuji Muraoka, a traditional craftsman. She expresses her emotions through the neck lines and eye curves of the dolls while adding a touch of traditional Japanese elegance and sophistication.
