Industrial civilization

Cubic meters of cement, here is the new urban architecture
created for a new progressive idea,
There it left its legacy in totem,
witness the brutal plundering of the earth
abandonment and desolation .....

The veil of the soul

The veil of the soul

Description of the work

Detail of the dress of a doll on display at the Museum of Dolls in Angera on Lake Maggiore.

I was on a visit to the Doll Museum;
among a myriad of dolls on display,
one in particular caught my attention.
This doll, called "La bambolaia",
he wore a skirt in jute fabric,
from which many little dolls' faces appeared.
At that moment I thought about the photo I wanted to do,
wanting to represent the last moments of our existence,
the spirit imprisoned by the sense of sin,
the mind that goes in search of memories
and a return to the infantile state.
In this last act, the veil rises
and leaves the spirit free from the sense of sin ....

SEEKING SILENCE

"I seek silence
like you who read with thought
not aloud
the sound of my own voice
would now be noise
not words but just annoying sound
that distracts me from thinking."

Alda Merini

The present project intends to reflect on how frenzied our current daily life is, the hectic pace of modern life distracting us from any emotions. Any gesture or thought is and remains sterile. We are closed in an intangible border
A sense of bewilderment besiege us making us fragile, the seek for our own innermost being is essential.
We are looking for something so difficult to identify, the need to look for ourselves in our lives anchored in memories.
Seeking something that can only be silence ...

Veglia

"WAKE"

A whole night

thrown near

a massacred

companion

with his mouth

sneering

facing the whole moon

with the congestion

of his hands

penetrating

my silence

I have written

letters full of love

I have never been

attached to life

so much

Giuseppe Ungaretti

PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT:

This project entitled "Wake" which I composed on the occasion of the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, takes inspiration from a poem by Giuseppe Ungaretti entitled the same name. He wrote this poem as a young soldier while he was on the front in the mountains of Karst (Italy) on the night of December 23,1915, describing all the pain and horror of the Great War.

In my photographs I took details of the monument "Martyrs of the Resistance" in my town in Reggio Emilia. (Italy)

Exuvia

Exuvia

"Upon awakening
the dragonfly takes off its first flight.
From previous life
just the casing remains:
the exuvia..."

My daughter and I

Every father uses to have different eyes for his children. Although he does not seek or want it, he is well aware of his emotional involvement especially to his daughter.

He nurtures for her a special sense of protection,
a sort of veil symbolizing his love for her...

He observes her in a summer afternoon while a sense of melancholy surrounding his heart slowly arises.

His Elena is no longer the same; she has now become a woman.

His mind clings to memories, a hug, a kiss received, those gaze and sound of her voice...gone by now...

A desire grows with him to imagine the metamorphosis
that has in one moment deleted forever the intangible nature of his love.

Imagining her while resting in a lawn.

On awakening she is held up by a sense of bewilderment, full of nostalgia
crouching down in the veil, that gift for her so precious.

But her desire for space breaks through
the desire to wriggle away and soar in a new dimension aware of her beauty.

Her first small steps are a timid one
Her gaze turning backwards over once
sensing her father still there, still perceiving him...

Time has come for her to abandon his gift forever
Folding down on herself and almost seeking it......
Her shoulders now turned to her past
A new path begins without the exuvia.
The dragonfly can now fly..
