Location: Australia
Louise grew up on the vast 12,000km expanse of Western Australia’s remote, harsh arid, yet pristine, turquoise-coloured Indian Ocean coastline. From her early childhood days, she spent a large amount of her time deeply immersed in the ocean, seeking escape from her own reality.
“Water to me is ethereal. When I immerse myself in it, I find I can escape to my own solitude. It’s a sacred place to me, where I can seek refuge, where time stands still, I feel adrift, liberated, free, and all I hear and feel is the beauty of the motion of the ocean all around me.”
Louise’s detailed oil paintings beautifully encapsulate her close relationship with water in an exquisitely feminine way. Her exquisite paintings reveal a gentle, languid softness expressing her relationship with water.
Louise paints to create her heavenly feminine forms in an outer-worldly dreamlike state, surrendering herself to nature, while composed in a dimension of a euphoric, stillness. Her detailed studies create a hyper-realistic likeness in relation to refraction and the interplay of light, reflection, distortion and illusion are so articulately painted, her feminine forms appear weightless in composition. Louise seeks to represent the deep emotional connection that she experiences when escaping to her personal freedom.

I am heavily influence by our beautifully vast and barren Western Australian coastline where I spend endless summers laying adrift or swimming. I observe what the light from the sun penetrating through the water to the ocean floor, and on to figurative form does; reflection, refraction, illusion, distortion, foreshortening all fascinate me, and being a bit of a perfectionist I try to replicate that with sensitivity and emotion to express freedom and surrender.
