"In a time dominated by unsettling environmental news, beauty and hope can be hard to come by. My biggest mission is
to create paintings that have not only aesthetic impact on the viewer, but also can trigger emotions and important
questions. At eye level, the reef is healthy and diverse. It virtually comes alive with vibrant colours. But as the viewers’
eyes are drawn upward, they are confronted with the devastating effects of human impact on corals. Coral reefs are living
and complex organisms, the heart of an immense habitat of marine species Their disappearance will entail a disastrous
imbalance on all: ecological, climate and human levels.
When you fall in love with something you naturally want to protect it. That is why I intend to connect viewers with the
underwater living wonderland, and I hope to spark a conversation about the importance of marine conservation.
I would like my art to be like a window into a world that not everyone has an opportunity to see, to preserve unique
scenery, exquisite moments and create visual depiction of the natural world, an endangered world that may not be
available in the future.”
There are three things that bring me endless joy: being with my loved ones, nature and painting. I understood that I have been given the opportunity to combine my passion for painting with nature and, in this case, the ocean and I decided to dive in deep.
Current environmental issues have always been my focus, but my art does not attempt to provide facts or complex data. It’s created to share my love and connection with the ocean, to capture her beauty, to bring the beach indoors for all ocean lovers and give a piece of underwater wonderland to enjoy year-round. What we fall in love with, we protect.
I showcase the dazzling textures and diverse forms of coral, but they also visualize how vulnerable our reefs are. From blossoming coral to tropical fish, each captured element plays a vital part in the overall picture, just like every habitat of marine species which depend on one another to survive. Without this pillar, a major part of underwater life can become close to extinction which may entail a critical imbalance on all ecological, climate, and human levels.
The ocean is an oasis of life that is under severe threat and needs our urgent attention and art can subtly send a message without appearing to do so. Staying in balance with our natural surroundings is essential to its and our own survival. It is our duty as citizens of this planet to maintain and protect it, for us and for future generations.
“The wonders of the sea are as marvellous as the glories of the heavens.”
- Matthew Fontaine Maury [Physical geography of the sea]
“With knowing comes caring, and with caring there is a hope that we will find an enduring place for ourselves within the natural – mostly blue- systems that sustain us”
“Where the land meets the sea”
There’s nothing like standing at the edge of the ocean. With each wave barreling in one after the other, our senses can’t help but be ignited. Smelling that salty and briny sea breeze, seeing its vastness as our eyes scan the horizon to try to comprehend its end, and feeling so small in the middle of its mighty roar or quiet stillness: these are emotions only the ocean can stir.
“The heart of man is very much like the sea, it has its storms, it has its tides and in its depths it has its pearls too”
Vincent van Gogh
“There's nothing wrong with enjoying looking at the surface of the ocean itself, except that when you finally see what goes on underwater, you realize that you've been missing the whole point of the ocean. Staying on the surface all the time is like going to the circus and staring at the outside of the tent.”
“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”
“The world’s finest wilderness lies beneath the waves.”
“We are like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected on the deep.”
“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”
“If the ocean can calm itself, so can you. We are both salt water mixed with air”
“The greatest danger to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
“You will love the ocean. It makes you feel small, but not in a bad way. Small because you realize you’re part of something bigger.”
“How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is clearly Ocean.”
“The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles.”
“The ocean is a world of perpetual motion and sound, a world where nothing stands still.”
“The sea is the same as it has been since before men ever went on it in boats.”
“The ocean is a mighty, vast, and dangerous place, but it always makes me feel small and humble.”
The ocean is an unfathomable mystery.”
“The ocean makes me feel really small, and it puts my whole life in perspective.”
“Let the waves carry you where the light can not.”
