Art has been something that has been a calling in my life for a long time. I love what it is able to do in individuals and people as a whole. My journey started in the home I grew up in, with my family, I had an environment where I was able to grow, and I learned in a creative way. My brother, sister and I loved this environment we found what we loved to do and where encouraged to do so.
My inspiration started there as well. I saw my brother who knew how to do everything. He was an excellent athlete a good artist as well. When we would visit our cousins that lived down the street from us all our cousins friends would crowd around my brother to see what he could draw for them, when I saw that I was amazed. My father drew characters on the corners of his work, and I saw what he drew and also the pens he used (pilot and fossil pens). My mother was a poet but until I found her old drawing portfolio I had no idea that she drew as well. She had color studies face drawings shape patterns, I was floored. My sister uses movement and rhythm for dance, each of us was encouraged to excel in whatever we chose. Finally being able to have met my wife and have a family also inspires on a day to day.
My art is a journal of the journey we take as individuals. The complexity’s we face, the decisions that we face and the multitude of outcomes. How do we find what our voice is or who we are? The art that I create highlight’s the journey. We must also remember that through all the complex things we face, beauty still comes from it, we have examples on an individual level and as a whole community. So in essence one must look at the success they have had and realize how great we actually are.
