Artist Biography
Charlene Corman-Brooks, a teacher, artist, published writer, and 4th generation farmer lives in the Ozarks on the farm that Grandfather built for his family between 1920 and 1963. A 1984 graduate of Missouri State University with BSED. History and Education Major, Religion Minor. Art has been my passion since 1968.
Art has impacted my life. I sold my first commissioned painting in oil at age 15. Since then, I have sold numerous paintings in watercolor, pastel, and mixed medium collage. Art follows me everywhere I go. I joined a painting group in 1986 called the West Plains Artist Guild which I’ve been a member of for 27 years, and officer as secretary, treasurer, vice president, and now president and treasurer. I was able to incorporate our group WPAG as a 501-C Not for profit organization in 2008. Our group celebrated 50 years of promoting art to every age group in 2013.
Local artist and teachers that have influenced Brooks painting includes: Marie Booth, Roy Hathcock, Roger King, Joyce McNair, Kerry Hansen, George Tutt Fulton, Missouri, and Michael McClure an impressionist artist and neighbor.
For Charlene, a mix of mediums is used to express mood, texture, and the brilliant color of light. It is also a means to share the beauty of God’s creation around us. Her art work brings the ordinary and mundane to one’s attention and records the passing of time in our changing Ozarks culture. She believes art preserves our world for years to come, making it “a thing of beauty, and a joy forever.”
