Garry Scott Wheeler

Garry Scott Wheeler is an award winning abstract acrylic artist, author and entrepreneur from the Gulf Coast of Florida. He has traveled to over 100 countries seeking inspiration for his paintings over the past 10 years.

His fans have told him that looking at his paintings is comparable to lying on their backs, looking up at the clouds and trying to interpret the shapes that you see. I don't know about you, but that sounds like a whole lot of fun to me!

The heart and soul of his paintings emanates from vividly seeing colors and shapes in his daily life. Garry has been passionate about abstract art since he was a child. Most of his paintings attempt to capture a dream that he has had at some point in his past. Music plays a key role in conjuring up day dreams, which many times he even has a hard time understanding. Somehow, between his head, heart and hand, he reproduces these dreams on canvas for others to interpret with him.

Of course, in every place he has traveled he also has been inspired by the art he has seen in galleries and museums. He especially enjoys the works of Wassily Kadinsky, Joan Miro, Alexander Calder and Jackson Pollock. His artwork is a reflection of his life’s journey, adventures and experiences and he is thrilled to be able to share it with you.

“Happy Place” defines the mood I was in when I painted this piece. It also relates to a dream that I had a few days before. In my dream, I saw many shapes, colors and animals. When I awoke from my slumber, I felt invigorated and alive. A very nice way to start the day. This piece conjures up joy from every angle.

“Menagerie” is one of my very favorite pieces. It emanated from a dream that I had about animals, aliens and birds. Yeah, maybe I had one too many glasses of wine the night before, but the dream was quite vivid and fun. Translating the dream to canvas has allowed me to relive it on a regular basis. Who doesn’t love color, shapes and odd little figures?

"Outreach" “"Outreach"”

“Outreach” was a fun piece for me to create. I had a vision while I listened to the album. “Madman Across the Water” from Elton John. What I realized at the time was the importance of that particular album to me and how much it reached me on every level. This painting attempts to show connection, fortitude and love.

"Momentary Lapse of Reason" “"Momentary Lapse of Reason"”

Size: 36" x 36" x 1.5"

Original acrylic painting 36" x 36" x 1.5" on stretched canvas. Signed on front. Black edges and high gloss finish. Ready to hang.
“Momentary Lapse of Reason” is loaded with colors and fun figures. My inspiration came from watching a documentary about global warming. I was inspired by the fortitude of our planet, but also troubled by the challenges it faces. Mankind is a blip on the 4 billion+ year timeline of our planet, hence the title, “Momentary Lapse of Reason”. We have lost our way with respect to the environment and seem to justify it by enjoying economic benefits . I wanted to create a tribute piece to all things living with this piece.

"Upstairs at Mary's" “"Upstairs at Mary's"”

Original acrylic painting on 18" x 24" x 7/8" stretched canvas. Signed on front. Black edges with high gloss finish. Ready to hang.

“Upstairs at Mary’s” emanated from a dream that I had about my wife when we were first dating over 30 years ago. The passion, joy and love that I felt for her when we first dated left an indelible image on my being. Fortunately, I am still with her today and my feelings have only intensified over the years.
