Dmitri Miletskii b. 1980
Dmitri was born and raised in Chelyabinsk, Russia where he studied art and watercolour at Chelyabinsk Art College.
After moving to Toronto, Canada in 1997, Dmitri continued to paint and pursue his art education at the Toronto School of Art, while also specialising in Human Biology at the University of Toronto.
During his time in Canada, Dmitri participated in numerous exhibitions and became the youngest member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour. His subject matter also broadened from still-lifes and portraiture to Oil paintings of musicians and their music.
In these paintings, Dmitri seeks to relay the sounds of various genres of music by emphasizing dimension, emotion and, especially, colour accordingly. These paintings are about visceral responses to sounds of music. The painting process becomes much like a dance. And if there is a specific combination of moves for certain music, he believes, then specific combinations of shapes, textures and colours exists for that music.
Since arriving in London in 2005, Dmitri has continued to enjoy this subject matter. The birth of his daughter Lana in 2010 has provided him with further exciting painting opportunities, with a return to watercolour and a focus on the fleeting beauty and whimsy of childhood.
Dmitri’s paintings can be found in private and public collections in Canada, the United States, the UK and various countries around Europe.
